Gathering Signatures

✅ 1. Use Only Blue or Black Ink

✅ 2. Before Collecting Signatures: Check the "volunteer" box before any signatures are gathered. Then immediately fill out the "county" box at the same time. 

✅ 3. Always ask:

"Are you a registered voter?"
(Only registered voters are allowed to sign.)
 

✅ 4. If they are registered, have them:

• Print their full name.
   
• Write their full residence address (no P.O. Boxes).
   
• Write their city.
   
• Write the date.
   

✅ 5. Use their own handwriting:

• The signer must fill out the petition themselves.
   
• Never write on the petition for them — it's illegal.

• If someone starts to fill it out for someone else, ask them to stop and strike-through the line completely and have the signer fill in that information themselves.
   

✅ 6.. After they sign:

• Thank them for supporting the cause.
   
• Be polite and appreciative.
   

✅ 7. If they have questions:

• Answer honestly,
   
• Or direct them to official campaign materials for more information.
   

✅ 8. Focus on accuracy:

• Mistakes on petition sheets can lead to disqualified signatures.
   
• Take your time. Double-check before moving on.

✅ 9. Don't Fill out anything on the back before turn-in.

Ask your volunteer lead for directions on how to handle the back pages. 

✅ 10. Most important:

Be polite, patient, and careful — every valid signature counts toward real change.

Notes: 

•  Carry a few extra pens.
   
• Have a clipboard ready with clean, wrinkle-free petition sheets.
   
• Always stay calm — you’re offering people an opportunity, not pressuring them.
